hey everyone. just wanted to ask a quick question. i've been really looking into and researching a water fast because i really need to clean and detox my body. however, i have a very fast paced and stressfull job. i'm a bartender in a very busy bar and during football i easily work 12 hour shifts with no break and it's just nothing but moving. a water fast seems highly unlikely during this time because i know i will have a lot of detoxing to do and i know i woudln't be able to work with the state i'm in now, but i would like to give my body a break from really digesting food and all that and would like to do some type of detox. what type of juice would be the closest to a water detox, but would not receive the detox symptoms? i've done a lot of research on The Master Cleanse (lemons, waters, cayenne pepper and grade b maple syrup alone with salt water flushes) but would rather do just a juice only type fast.
i was either thinking Watermelon juice or maybe a veggie juice or broth type mixture (a pot of distilled water and chopped fresh veggies boiled then drink the juice? i would really love some input. thanks
You are very wise to see the problem with a water fast combined with a stress job!! I invite you to hop over to the Water forum and read a post Maverick just left on days 17 & 18, WATER FASTING while working an extremely demanding job and just about losing it!!! My recommendation to her is below. Ack!
Consider orange juice, unless you have sugar/yeast issues. There is a recommended Orange Juice Fast, and the legendary Jethro Kloss, author of Back to Eden, also recommends OJ.
I did a combo juice/water fast this trip, after reading much inspirational material about the benefits of water fasting, particularly for the digestive system (My Thing). So saying, I began with a couple days of OJ, then sigued to water. Tell you what, that stuff dumps you in the toilet!! I felt like I could barely make it from the chair to the potty to the bed! I was NOT of this world, and didn't want any part of it (crowds, people, noise, even loud TV are very jarring). I felt like I was out of gas. Period.
I have done very long fasts (30, 45, 60 days), always with the support of juices. I felt wonderful every fasting day barring crises, continued my regular schedule including gym workout, and my energy increased as the fast progressed. My results have been nothing short of spectacular.
Anyhow, I'm rambling a bit but all that said, a word about the MC. It is simple to prepare a jug of lemonade and drink on it all day. It is VERY supportive (to day 48 of my 60 day fast was MC) and very effective. It is the next deepest cleanse to water, and will not let you down. I recommend it highly. If the cayenne puts you off, omit it or take it in capsules, one 3x daily with juice. I tend to drink about six glasses of the lemonade daily, plus lots of pure water. Be sure to keep well hydrated during any fast, and keep those kidneys flushing.
The colon cleansing routine of the MC is pretty much good advice for any fast. You should plan to do some kind of routine daily to flush your colon. The simplest and most effective in my experience is a plain water enema, which gives you control over where and when you do that procedure. A plain water enema has stopped many a detox crisis in its tracks for me! Keep your colon very clean, every fasting day.
If you are pretty toxic, DO begin your fast with a 3-5 day fruit/veg diet. If you drink coffee, DON'T stop cold turkey! Taper off over the 3-5 days. I've broken my own rule and really regretted it (nothing like a caffeine headache). For the 3-5 days, stick to fruits and vegetables. Nothing else. Lots of water. You are pre-cleansing, preparing for your fast and will avoid many of the traditional first week nasty toxic reactions.
Finally! I think I've run out of stuff. At any rate, congratulations on this gift you are giving yourself. It truly is amazing how much gunk we can accumulate over the years!
hey! thanks again for the wonderfull advice. i have decided that i will def do the orange juice or the mc. probably the mc because i know more about it and researched it more, nothing about the orange juice though. i will probably do at least a couple days of just pure water though to try and really detox, just not on days where i work. i read mavericks message the poor thing. she'll get through it and i'm sure once she realizes all the benefits shes gaining she'll think it was worth it. oh, and i also wanted to say thanks for your colon post in the water forum about your doctor and how long it took you to really get clean. i want to go to a professional sooo bad, but since i dont have that much money saved i'm going to do a couple colonics first, i'm going to buy the humaworacleanse, humaworm, and do a liveer flush. we'll see how it goes. i wish you the best luck while continuing your fast, and as always thanks for the much appreciated advice
Hey, sounds like you're doing great work! The Master Cleanse is an excellent choice, and sure got me where I am today, colonwise! I am doing a series of three since I appear to REEEEEELY need it! Stuff is starting to stick again. Just the first one made me feel so much better!
Have a great one, and let me know if I can help you in any way.
