Much depends on the quality of your food reserves rather than just the quantity, so it isn’t just about fat stores as to how long you can safely fast with benefit. Some people have had a potassium deficiency (the most common) at the 20 day mark. ... My max fast was for 43 days. I weigh about 250 pounds and after 28 days I found I was only loosing 1/2 pound per day. I wanted to loose an additional 45 pounds so that would take 90 days. Could I stop the fast and bring myself out of food conservation mode with first juices for 6 days after a 45 day fast and then fruits and wait another one to two weeks before starting another 45 day fast to loose another 45 pounds? Hiya, ... if you’re talking about water fasting it’s usually not recommended you go beyond 40 days as this is when the body starts to eat itself and starvation begins, you could kill yourself going over this amount of time. You could try alternate fasting, so 30 days on juice and then 30 days water. I read somewhere it’s not recommended you do more than 2 x 30 day water fasts in a year. Hope that helps! [End]

It could be electrolytes as you say, but it could also be other things. Eat more low carb vegetables. They have plenty of potassium and other minerals. 100mg of magnesium supplements a day is not enough. I suggest you take at least 100mg 3x a day. Getting enough calcium, zinc, selenium and other minerals is very important. Stay away from potassium pills they can damaage your digestive system.
