So here’s a far-out and heady hypothetical proposition, a provocative and introspective thought experiment to test the depth of belief that death penalty supporters have in the moral math of “a life for a life”. I am against the death penalty.Too often the underclass is executed wrongfully. There is a historic case that occured in Barbados around 1964, where a white Canadian Anglican Priest murdered his wife one christmas morning. He then went to church and preached. The gardener, a black Vincentian was executed by hanging, despite the fact that the dead woman’s small child said that daddy did it. Years later the criminal struck again, there was no black scapegoat this time. He had left Barbados I do not recall where he was living at the time. He was convicted of murder, and at the same time admitted ...

I used to be very pro-death penalty. In theory I still am. I’m a big believer in justice. Without justice our society would go downhill fast. On the other hand, in practice the death penalty doesn’t make much sense the way it is performed today. Waiting many years or decades to bring a man to justice for his crime seems quite wrong. This is a very difficult subject for me. I am heartbreakingly pro-life and I’m a forgiver by nature...however I’m also a big believer in justice. These ultimately collide in the case of capital punishment. In short, I don’t know what my answer is. [End]

I’m a big believer in justice. Without justice our society would go downhill fast. ... ... I have a lawywer in one of my classes and he told us a story about his days in law school. ... ... You want justice, you are in the wrong field, go to theology school for justice. ... ... There is no justice in our ”justice department.” The truth is the rich can get away with murder adn the poor will be put to death for begging. ... ... I’m glad you believe in justice, but you ...

I’ve always loved posing this question also to pro-lifers and often realize they are not pro-lifers anymore but pro-death. Funny isn’t it? ... ... Yeah, there is always a big conundrum when it comes to this subject. I bet most pro-choice people are anti-death penalty. And many pro-life people actually end up being for the death penalty. I’m not saying this to say that one group is ”good” or ”bad”, it’s just a strange twist. [End]

Atlanta: ... ... It was not my intention to start accusing people of being contrary. It’s only food for thought. I wanted people to be really honest in this post so that we can keep this topic open. preaching about God? what are you preaching? Or are you exempt from this whole thing? ... By the way, we’re all accountable. We will be. ... I would have to say, that in the old testament it was an eye for an eye. Meaning, if you killed someone you should be killed. etc. ... When Jesus came, things changed. He became the sacrifice. I am pro-choice and I am against the death penalty (unless they killed my family member). Go figure. I think, if anyone tried to kill one of my family members, I’d have to do something. I feel like so many innocent people are actually put to death, how can we know? But, then again, I’ve never felt the overwhelming despair that would come if someone hurt my child. ... ... yeah your right it isn’t comparable to the Iraq war or Death Penalty. Abortion is more like the holocaust. Extermination of a large group of innocent people.
