i like the nascent iodine. it definitely has its benefits. lets take a quick look att he different forms available and what seems apparent about them at this time.
first off, i do not like the term "detoxified". mr cayce used a lot of terms in archaic and otherwise unique ways. he was not a man of Science and did not use scientific terms. if he was that precise in his meanings, there would not still be questions about some of his readings as to their exact meanings. no one has yet satisfied me about what he meant by the term "soda" in his famous statement about the four things the body needs. we recently heard on this forum of a fifth element to that list - iron. who knows for sure? but because cayce said it, it takes on some sort of magical mystery tour appeal and as far as i am concerned, the term "detoxified" has been hijacked by marketers for their express purposes and has absolutely no bearing on anything else. if other Iodine were toxic, i would be dead long ago.
LL, we must have been posting at the same time and i was saying the same thing about dr brownstein. when he switched to Lugols is when he started getting such good clinical results. it was the elemental iodine(I2) that made the difference. so, a quick review:
KI - potassium iodide. there was extensive use of SSKI(super saturated potassium iodide) for treatment and diagnostic use 100 years ago. this is KI in distilled water at near the saturation point and is standardized at 100grams per 100ml of solution. compare this to the amount of KI in lugols which is 10g/100ml. this stuff is safe and effective especially for certain pathogens, systemic infections and as a dignostic tool for syphylis. the amounts given were huge - in the 1-3 grams range.
I2 - this is the elemental or re-sublimed crystals of pure iodine from the mined ore. it can also be obtained from seaweed(which is how it was first discovered), but that is more expensive. most iodine is mined in peru, i believe. this is the stuff added to the water and KI in lugols to give it that dark color and strong smell. I2 will dissolve in an aqueous KI solution or in alcohol. it will not dissolve in water alone. this is the stuff that can cause people problems as well as solve them. it is highly oxidative. like any other halogen, it readily combines with other elements. it is the coolest element(my opinion). the fact that the iodine project doctors have done so well with plain old I2 in solution tells me that it works. perhaps in this state the doses have to be higher to get the same effect, i dont know. but the doses for success are not intolerable, so the point is moot.
I - monotomic iodine. that is what is being talked about when the words "nascent" and "detoxified" are used. instead of a diatomic particle of iodine, I2, this natural bond has been broken via electromagnetic stimulation and the single atoms of iodine are free from one another. we are told this is the form used by the thyroid to make T3 and T4. if this is true(and i have no reason to doubt it), then that also means the thyroid has a way to isolate these atom all on their own. so what is the benefit of providing MI(monoatomic iodine) to the body? i do not know. i do know one thing when it comes to anything we do to try and help the body along - the body is very efficient which makes it inherently lazy. if something is being done for it, the ability to do it for itself will atrophe and one stands the chance of losing it through disuse.
i hope this broadens the conversation and takes the mystery out of some of this iodine talk. the bottom line is that these non-organic forms of iodine are well tolerated by the body, whereas organic forms - forms bound to a carbon atom like the new proposed methyl Iodide for use in conditioning soils in place of methyl bromide - are harmful to health not well tolerated at all by the body. in other words, non-organic iodine of all the types mentioned above IS the true detoxified iodine.
