I also wonder....
Does someone know when out shopping for clothes, what sweatshop it came from? Does one look at the label? Made in Taiwan, or made in Pakistan, Hong Kong or India? By children or young women, getting ten cents per day?
Do we know when we purchase a rug made in India, it could most likely came from children who were kidnapped from their families and held hostage in a rug making camp?
Do we know when we choose to eat chocolate, the most readily available brands come from the broken backs of children who slave to pick the cocao beans, who are beaten if slow or if they stumble?
Do we know when we sit down to a wooden table, where the wood came from, how many animals lost their home due to its production?
Do we choose the best cars that use the least amount of oil and gas, which millions of people are dying in the name of natural resources?
When we buy diamonds do we realize it came from the suffereing natives of the land who get paid nothing while sacrificing their life to obtain these small bits of rock?
Do we know by paying taxes in some countries, some of that money helps to make sure palestinians do not live much longer?
Do we know how much paper we waste and how many trees have we used in our lifetime?
Do we make sure our neighbor is fed and healthy regardless of religion, ethnicity, belief or gender?
Are we involved with the care of orphans, widows and the sick?
While everything in this world was created for the benefit of mankind, it does not mean we take advantage.
IF one chooses to be vegetarian, then I applaud them, for choosing this path is adorned with righteousness. Yet at the same time, these animals were created for the benefit of mankind and in countless scriptures in many religions it states that. AS LONG as the person obeys the guidelines set down within those scriptures.
Bottom line we have to follow OUR conscious. IF your inner being is most comfortable doing something and negating another then let it be.
Lying to another, stealing, cheating, being miserly towards another so that they get little and you get much is WORSE than eating the flesh of a permissable animal.
Treating someone as if they are lower than you and not giving your servants the same things the head of the household gets, is worse. Enslaving children is worse. Helping the killing of children is worse.
So we should not put one thing over many things. Nor should we ignore our inner feelings. But strive to do our best in all arenas of this life. We should never consider ourselves superior to another, because we do not know what is in anothers heart.
