My twitching started after my Mirena was REMOVED. Numbness all over my head too, just one side at a time, and different locations (i.e. right side, top of scull; left side eye and cheek and 1/2 side of lips; etc.). It would come on without warning. I thought it must be a withdrawal symptom of the medication. If so, it is logical that some people get the same symptoms as the medication builds up in their system too. The thing about Mirena is that the absorption is constant -- our normal cycles are not like that. We get a rise in one hormone and a fall in others at different times of the month. So, Mirena just builds up within us, never giving us a break from it to get it back out of our system. There are so many forms of birth control like that now, in the form of injections, implants, etc. that I am now weary of.
