Do not get too concerned...
"Organic arsenic is commonly found in seaweed and other marine foods but has not been linked to any human illnesses."
http://www.nzfsa.govt.nz/consumers/chemicals-toxins-additives/arsenic/index.htm
Unfortunately, from the same link, arsenic levels are affected by mans activities...
Arsenic levels [in food and water] may be affected by:
• the past use of pesticides containing arsenic
• proximity to smelters or coal fired power plants
• erosion caused by intensive land use.
To be blunt, there is no avoiding any naturally occurring mineral\element 100%. Our exposure to ANY toxin is increased predominately by man's activities... do not make the mistake of blaming or fearing a\the plant that is just doing its job.
Another thing to consider here, is that according to Olree, Minerals for the Genetic Code, males, including human males, would not exist without arsenic.
"In pregnancy, the arsenic level goes up tenfold if the child is to be a boy. Without such a level, spontaneous abortion becomes the inevitable result. Pine needles crushed and steeped as a tea in boiling water deliver enough arsenic to prevent miscarriage." (p 118)
In another passage about arsenic, "The mineral is a profound requirement for living systems..."
and, that the closure of wells in some areas in India and the surrounding countries due to "high" arsenic levels has inadvertently caused a great increase in cancers in those same areas. Coincidence? Olree does not think so... he believes it is directly related to closing the wells. In the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences a reference was made to a combination of arsenic and bryostatin [from bryozoans that build calcium carbonate skeletons] for a powerful new treatment for certain kinds of leukemia.
There is more, however my point is that there are two sides to every coin... a good and bad, a yin and yang.
As humans, all we need to do is define the line where benefit ends and harm begins... easier said than done, unless you learn to "know" for yourself... and for any specific individual, it is not necessarily what another thinks or an "average".
EDIT - if you are concerned with arsenic levels in foods, you may want to avoid carrots and grapefruit, although, curiously, citrus rind [the pectin I believe] has been found to bind with arsenic and other heavy metals pulling them out of the body...
Carrot root concentrates arsenic, so be sure you do not eat carrots that have been sprayed with arsenic containing chemicals...
It is not uncommon for a plant to concentrate a specific mineral.
The anti-cancer link to arsenic mentioned by Olree is curious in the scope of some natural cancer cure protocols that call for lots of carrot juice.
interesting... no?
