You only need to go back 7 or 8 generations... that should be far enough. Especially if your ancestors had an agrarian background.
Mine did. They harvested wild berries, nuts, seeds, tapped maple trees, dug up roots, picked wild greens, hunted and fished, all to supplement their diets.
In fact, when I was a kid, I remember some of the wild berry pick'n days... it was hard work, and every one got stuck with a sticker bush or two... but a lot of fun with a picnic in the middle and the swimming hole for 30 minutes or so before heading home :-)
And then cooking, canning, preserving, freezing... the wild berry syrups for pancakes, jams for thick slices of homemade bread, and the pies... Oh the pies!
How I miss them... I am going to have to get busy and start harvesting some wild cactus fruit soon... I am getting hungry and nostalgic :-)
