O/T My Mom's stroke & hospital stay

I’m posting this “vent” here on the Iodine forum, because although I don’t post here often, I’ve been present here for a year, maybe two. I respect and admire many of you, and just feel the need to share this with people who would understand.

My mom, 84, had a stroke 6 days ago, resulting in language processing difficulties, but no problems with physical or cognitive function. The worse thing is she can’t answer for herself. My sister took her to emergency, which I couldn’t argue with. So 6 days later, Mom went from walking to the car to get to the hospital, (and before that, living alone, doing her own yard work, difficulty walking far, but good quality of life), to iv’s, catheter, numerous drugs, having a pacemaker installed, antibiotics, blood thinners “for life”, statin drugs, lord knows what else. Her breathing is labored, and now she needs help just to move in bed. My instincts said get her away from the hospital. After the first night I felt even stronger that getting her home would be the best thing. But I’m the youngest of 6, so have zero clout, and the rest know nothing “alternative” and trust the doctors. It is me against all of them, and they think I’m nuts. The doctors tell them if she doesn’t have this or that, she’ll die, and they believe them. Short of kidnapping her, there is nothing I can do. There might have been a chance that she would have another stroke if she just went home, but now there is a virtual guarantee that she’ll continue to decline. I just feel sick inside.

I’ve read plenty of these horror stories now I’m living one. I feel like my mom’s been eaten up by the machine, and I’m being forced to watch.
