Hi all, one teaspoon of salt per one pint of water is also known as the Universal salt solution. It is safe for use as a gargle, an eyewash and for enemas.

What happens as you dissolve salt in water, you reach a point called saturation where the water cannot dissolve any more of the salt. When that happens and you add more it doesn't dissolve, it just pools on the bottom of the glass or the container.

There are many different types of chemical salts. For each one there is a different amount for how much can be dissolved before reaching the saturation.

I concur that sticking with 2 teaspoons per quart is the safest and most effective amount to use for an enema, as it most closely approximates the fluid balance of the body.
