Now this is a great post. I didn't think you had it in you.
But a great point of discussion could start with what government services could you/we do without. Starting with garbage pickup. I pay a private company to pick up my garbage. Police protection is pretty much non-existent where I live, unless you count the Highway Patrol and their speed traps.
Universal Service? I come from a community that relies on community service - from the fire department, to the Little League, to the Scouts. It is even a requirement for graduation from High School. I have never seen a incident where the kids were harmed or where their minds were brainwashed. In fact, the children of the hard nose Right Winger are also hard nosed Right Wingers. And the children of the Liberal Left are Liberal Left themselves. For some, it is the first and last time that they will do anything that comes close to giving back to the community. For some it is the starting point for a life of giving back in whatever ways they can. So I see no problem with teaching or requiring people to give back to the communities that have supported and nurtured them.
