This is interesting, I dug a little further and found the original study, although it's very brief

Now this is saying that 8% of the oxidizing capacity(determined by iodometry) was remaining after 5 minutes of mixing with the stomach contents(after an overnight fast)
That seems to mean that the 8% remaining could be chlorine dioxide chlorite or chlorate since any of these could oxidize Iodide back to iodine
In other words only a tiny amount of the ClO2 in any oxidizing form could be absorbed, if any at all in this case, not even chlorite, which is rather odd since in the ATSDR report it says that chlorite accounted for 20% of the 30% total absorbed and excreted Cl36 after 72 hours.

How do you account for that?
