No, the body uses TMG to SYNTHESIZE SAMe, not breaking it down. TMG has this molecular structure : C5H11NO2
SAMe is far more complex : C15H22N6O5S+, and its molar mass is 3.4 times that of TMG.

Why would the number of methyl groups be of any significance ? Yes, both are methyl donors, but comparing them by methyl groups is misleading. SAMe is more complex and serves different functions than TMG. If TMG could do the same, even more efficiently, then the body would not synthesize SAMe, don't you think ? By supplementing TMG instead of SAMe you imply correct liver functions and rely on the liver to synthesize SAMe - but the reason to supplement SAMe is a liver deficiency.

Unless you have far more insight than the entire scientific community about the biological mechanisms involved, you will not be able to describe the differences of supplementing SAMe or TMG. Simplifications make life easier, but do not necessarily get the desired results.
