Observing the dumbed-down effect in real time

Just some recent observations of the world going on around me.  Some of these have occured during the past year or so of observing people's behavior while at work. Obviously....well, okay, given the subject line, perhaps this kind of situatoin is no longer obvious to many people, but be this as it may, I have no quickie drive-thru type of soundbyte web links to reference for those who insist that observations of facts are only credible whenevern they include "sources". As such, the main observation being voiced here is one that satisfies such requirements.

This observatoin came to be by way of having checked a local mainstream media outlet , so by default I sort of get what I asked for by having patronized the monopolized media apparatus. All I was after was to see what they are predicting for weather during the next 24 hours, but of course their web page is littered with all kinds of flashy noise that with occasional exceptions I usually try to ignore. Here is one that I did not ignore. It originates from Copenhagen of all places which means that for those still able and willing to think for themselves, this is likely a dead ringer for some really dumb information being reported as though legitmate news.

headline - Report: 2000-2009 Was Warmest Decade Ever

the opening paragraph begins with -   COPENHAGEN (CBS News)  This decade has very likely been the warmest in the historical record, and 2009 will probably end up as one of the warmest years, the U.N. weather agency announced Tuesday  .....

for good measure, confirming dumbness from paragraph 3 -  The decade 2000-2009 "is very likely to be the warmest on record, warmer than the 1990s, than the 1980s and so on," Jarraud said....

This particular observation generally begins with an understanding that "ever", even by conservative estimates, approximates 6000 years at a minimum. In other words, if somebody said something along the lines of "...warmest decade ever", I would normally take this to mean warmest decade during, at the least, the past 6000 years; silly me. So much for thinking on my own. The opening salvo immediately qualifies the headline, and then the third paragraph confirms this confirmation by putting "ever" into the context of as far back as the 1990s and 1980s and so on. Maybe its just me but I gotta admit, limiting ever to the past 30 years or so is really giving ever the short end of the stick. This might be a nice green stick, but is nonetheless the short, dirty end. Even considering that as far as an entity like the UN is concerned, ever only dates to the end of WWII, such a view is thoroughly demeaning the term. Somewhere in this dumb view there was reference to "record" and this of course draws into quesiton - what record, who's record, and who (or more likely what) got the bright idea to base this global warming nonsense on a hand full of decades of so-called records for a globe that has been manifesting weather for at least many hundreds of decades?

As a passing observation, the same brief visit to the same outlet of the monopolized apparatus informed me that Tiger Woods has apparently peed, big time, in somebody's cornflakes. Why else would it apear as though he is mid-stream (no pun intended) of being 'Spitzered...... oh well, 'da man giveth and 'da man taketh away whenever and however it pleaes 'da man.
