Ok I know this situation sounds really bizarre, but I am certain it's true. My mother has had an itchy scalp for years and has been to a dermatologist, but so far has gotten no answers except to apply calamine.
She spends an hour trying to comb her hair each night because she reports the hair has retracted into her scalp. I honestly thought she might be losing her mind at first, but then I decided to try applying calamine and olive oil to her head and noticed a large bump that she said was painful. When I came back to it later, it had moved. So... after applying the olive oil and calamine, the next day she removed two tiny spider-like creatures from her hair with approximately six to eight legs (hard to see with the naked eye).
I have been applying to her scalp a combo of olive oil, wormwood, Neem oil, and Black walnut tincture. It doesn't seem to work... though maybe it's too soon to tell. She reports a lot of movement when I put the oil combo on her head and she feels like the hair comes out of her scalp (pretty freaky), but the next day it's not gone. She has been pulling out more insects lately, so that is definitely a good sign. I stopped applying calamine last night after reading about mercury presence in some calamine lotions.
The next step I'm taking is coating her hair in Vaseline to see if that will do something. From what I can tell, she has the symptoms of being overrun by the Demodex mite, but the insect she pulled out looks nothing like that.
Have you heard of anything like this before?? She keeps crying profusely every night and I want to be able to help her... any help is VERY appreciated!
