Ok, consider the following
Th1 Cytokines = Cell mediated immunity(Pro inflammatory side of the immune system)
Th2 Cytokines = Humoral immunity(Anti inflammatory side)
Th1 = IL-1, IL-2, IL-12, IL-15, IL-18
Th2 = IL-4, IL-5, IL-6(TH1 OR TH2), IL-10, IL-13
(This is not an exhaustive list)
Now with these two branches of the immune system in general there is a reciprocal inhibition, i.e: when one side is dominant the other is suppressed.
Pathogens like candida and Mycobacteriaceae trigger the release of the Th2 cytokines which suppresses the Th1 side so spirulina comes in useful here as it boosts the Th1 side.
Your own link stated the spirulina EXTRACT boosted Th1 cytokines:
"The CA-elicited production of the Th1 cytokines tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha, interleukin (IL)-2, and interferon (IFN)-gamma was increased after Immunlina administration for 3 days (P < .001, < .03, and < .007, respectively), and increased IL-2 production persisted after 56 days (P < .004). The TNF-alpha, IFN-gamma, and IL-6 responses to TT were enhanced after 8 and 14 days"
No doubt there are many other things that boost cell mediated immunity but I like spirulina for the multitude of nutrients/benefits it has.
