Nah, you weren't rude.
The sad fact about alcoholics is that they seem to suffer less than the people around them, who slip into a really hard zone that is as crazy as anything the alcoholic does, but they are sober and have to deal with it.
I hate the word co-dependant, because it kind of makes the drunk the center of it, and people are each their own centers.
I have a whole bunch of relatives- both parents, and brother and sister who also are alcoholics or addicts.
It's harder to deal with that than to kick an addiction.
There is nothing more frustrating than a drunk.
Some people get better, and some do not, most don't.
I have no idea why I'm in the 'got better' group.
I think it helped me to watch several ugly alcoholic deaths, I didn't want to go out that way.
My husband and I are both sober 20+ we can't stand AA, we do try to help people get sober. Our house was mostly built by people we were trying to sober up.
We have cedar shingles, the guy who did the work was a late stage chronic, you can see him get better as he gets to the front of the house, the rows are straight.
We have a patio put in by someone who had about one year sober. What happens is that anything you learned to do when you were drinking, you can't remember how to do it sober. (Lots of research, it's called state dependant memory). This poor guy was a roofer, it took him a couple of months to do a realy simple job, he kept getting frustrated and ripping up what he had just done.
I will say, drunks are a major cause of baldness, everyone around them tears out their hair!
