I am working with many cases, and it would seem the opposite is true. The larger parasites will be immune specific. They prefer certain HLA "types". This helps with the adjustment between hosts, or species. When a "host" becomes overwhelmed by an aggressive microbial challenge, the entire chemistry of the body can be disturbed. This causes the body to be more susceptible to other semi-symbiotic, or parasitic life forms to establish within the host. There are often cycles which become part of the survival balance with host immunity.
I have seen many forms of algae-like parasites [protists, protozoa], and fungi in people with multiple symptoms.
Some parasites establish very easily and comfortably in some animals\humans. Often time there are little symptoms. The ones that cause illness are easier to treat, because the immune system is active against them [this is changing as parasites become resistant to chemical agents].
The focus of my research is on microbial parasites which are quite relevant in this forum. Shroom
