So the entire World is deficient in Vitamin D because of bacteria disrupting VDR's?
Hardly.
The MAIN risk factors for low vitamin D levels include older age, female sex, lower latitudes, winter season, darker skin pigmentation, less sunlight exposure, dietary habits, and the absence of vitamin D fortification in common foods.
Other factors include the increase in urbanization, where people tend to live and work indoors, as well as cultural practices that tend towards sun avoidance and the wearing of traditional clothing that covers the skin. The severity of the problem in the Middle East and South Asia arises from the combination of several of these risk factors.
Not to mention the advice of dermatologists who have advocated sun-avoidance for fear of skin-cancer, and the use of sunblock which prevents the formation of cholcalciferol within the skin, and the artificial lowering of cholesterol needed for Vitamin D via statins..........

Cholesterol is a precursor to vitamin D, and inhibiting the synthesis of cholesterol will also inhibit the synthesis of vitamin D. Since sunlight is required to turn cholesterol into vitamin D, avoiding the sun will likewise undermine our ability to synthesize vitamin D.
The correlation between low Vitamin D synthesis/status and the Mainstream recommendation and implementation for the lowering of cholesterol levels is intrinsically linked as one of the main causes.
