I think it depends and everyone is an individual case. In my own case, I did colonics for about 6-8 months to get some old gunk out, and it was good in that sense. But, I ended up moving out good bacteria along with it and ended up having to take some time rebuilding that up so ended up not really any further along. I also remember feeling crappy after colonics most of the time - probably too many toxins dislodged and free-floating about. Some colonic clinics offer to re-implant beneficial bacteria, but I never got any literature that said exactly what they were re-implanting up there, so who knows if they are even strains that can colonize? Eventually I decided to bag all the external poo-assistance and just focused on my diet, and trying to get it all out from the inside out. Magnesium is good for this (citrate or malate) My best cleanses have been when my system is working harmoniously - then my body tends to release everything plentifully and easily. It takes time, though.
