Here is another one that was played off at exactly same time:
A 25 year old female went to see her doctor for pregnancy follow-up. The doc told her she had a cancer (can't remember which type of cancer) and she should get under chemotherapy. That, of course, was a threat to baby's life. She had just gone through a book about animal life where it was said that the females ate the placenta in order to restore vitality after giving birth. So Nathalie (her real first name...) dealed with the doctor to bring up some kind of protocol so she could mimic same animal's wisdom. Of course it was a struggle at that time because she was the very first pionneer at that time. So she went under chemotherapy the latest possible and they managed to cover the mother's belly. She was told also that IF the child could survive, it was a non issue for her. Nathalie would have done anything to make sure her baby would live! Until the very last minute she had to battle with the doctor to make things happen her way. Luckily for her, a nurse helped her and talked to the doctor. The baby was put to life and the blood for the 'cordon' was injected to Nathalie. Both are well and alive ever since. It is the very first case of collecting the blood from the placenta (cellules souches we call them in french...) which is a huge debate in the states because it works!
Immediately after that event, two hospitals in Montreal started collecting them, freezing them and doing tests but don't make much noise around too. Depending on your blood type, they can reinject the cordon blood to sick persons. A young leukemia boy immediately recovered after a single dose. Didn't go in remission, cured completely. Why is it so hard to learn more about this real story ??
Sorry this post is so long. Angela's daughter was giving birth at same time her mother was dying (2-3 days before Angela died). Until last minute I begged a family member to be present at her side to take, steal (whatever you may call it) the placenta and make it workable for Angela to survive. He could have done that according to me. He was in charge of professional formation of nurses in accredited school. Anyways, I sounded like an alien to all the in law family (and still do...lol) who were too brain washed to do anything that could have saved their sister's life. For my own sister, I would have moved mountains and was astonished and devastated afterwards. I would have rushed her out of there and done anything I could, had it been my own sister.
Thanks to all for good words.
