I have a question about Higher Consciousness

I believe I have had several conscious elevations to a higher vibration but I'm not sure if that was what it was or not. Let me explain, a couple of years ago, I was walking around inside my home when I suddenly felt like I was somewhere else but not totally. I could still see all my belongings but they looked differently. They seemed prettier than before and all around me seemed to have a glow. It only lasted maybe less than a minute but it felt wonderful. It took my breath away. I was on a high for about an hour after it happened.
I've done this while I was driving my car before too. I'm totally aware of all that's going on around me but it's like I'm in complete awe and wonder because my whole universe at that moment feels beautiful.
Can someone please explain what is happening and how I can make this happen more often?
If I could make this happen at least once a week, I would be one happy girl!!
A little back ground note about my religion and metaphysical awareness: I am open to new ideas and know without a doubt that there is more to this life than what we see with our physical eyes. I've been the best Christian daughter my parents could ever ask for growing up but at the same time, I was not very happy. I am still a Christian but I am more of an employer at this point. I crave growth and progress for my higher self. Any ideas on how to get there?
