Hey Chiron (can I call you that for short?),
Actually, I've been hearing a bit about both kelp and black strap molasses for a while now, and while I've eaten kelp and other sea vegetables, I haven't tried the molasses. I'm into the whole food approach too. I agree that supplementing is best done through diet modification if at all possible. I guess it depends how deficient one is, and the nature of the deficiency. For example there is just no way I could see myself eating enough beef to get my iron and B12 levels anywhere where they needed to be, but perhaps there were other alternatives out there that I wasn't aware of before I began supplementing. I'm not sure of the exact composition of molasses, but I do recall that it is quite rich in a lot of goodies, and sounded like an all-round multi-vitamin to me! I've put it on my list of things to look into, especially considering people rave over it for endometriosis and other feminine dysfunctions. So it is next on my list of things to try! Perhaps it will quell sweet cravings too?!
I'm already planning my desert oasis coconut retreat! I'm thinking the Oodnadatta track or the Painted desert, hanging by the warm mineral springs, bathing in the early spring sunlight, and I could stock up on coconuts from a wholesaler in Adelaide or else get them on a road train to Coober Pedy before heading out there. I know they are expensive here - I just paid $4 ea for a stack of green coconut at Woolies! (For some random reason they just got some in) Still, if you figure consuming 5 a day, that's only $20 if you're not eating food, so it's still doable. I swear I could probably exist like that for the rest of my life!
So - you mentioned that fasting helped the hypoglycaemia and headaches - what about blood pressure? I'd be most delighted to hear if you had an improvement from that.
Oh, and I love your link by the way, it's half the reason I want to create a new forum - gather all that info in the one place. Perhaps I'll end up making a website out of it! Who knows how far I'll go with coconuts... maybe I'll create my own desert oasis fasting retreat... Cactus garden and all ;-)
Hehe.
