Re: Gluten

It took several years on the gf diet to stop itching in my scalp and having rough itchy skin on my sides. Part of this was because of the sprue and maladsopbtion and I was low on vitamins and minerals, especially Vit B12 and minerals. Every time I get a small amount of gluten the itching starts up again although it is delayed about a week or so and continues until the autoantibodies have decreased, sometimes the itching would continue for 3 or more months.

Some people have a build-up of gluten in plaques in the intestine and in the body. It may take several years for these to dissolve or wear away and provide enough gluten to keep the autoimmune response going. And, as you know, it is very difficult to completely avoid gluten for not only is it in small amounts in cross contaminated foods, kitchen dust, bakeries, plaster and more.

If you have not had the blood tests for Celiac Disease, or don't want to do that, look at the Genetic Marker Tests offered by online labs or the Molecular Serology tests offered by Prometheus Labs and other labs.
