Totally agree, and this information is extremely important. The problem with this, is that when the people do not have access to this sort of information, it opens the doors for the misinformation we see on many internet sites today. Simplistic, or exaggerated claims, made by fear mongers, and those with an agenda, take over , when factual data, with understandable explanations, are not available.
Scientists are probably not the best people to try and explain data to the general public, in ways that people can easily understand. I think a big effort in this area is needed though. If people don't understand the real data, they are vulnerable to exploitation.
