I really recommend people try buckwheat. This is gluten free and high in protein. It is especially anti-cancer, anti-viral, etc, it seems quasi-medicinal essentially.
Ironically, it may even be anti-candida. It has a profound effect on my GI problems. Nothing but buckwheat ever stopped IBS in its tracks.
I recommend organic sour kraut. Carbs are good, if you can digest them. Brown rice, and other lectin containing grains can be problematic, for those like myself with preexisting health problems. Ideally, like other country cultures, eating firmented non-gluten grains, would be good.
I do not think a vegetarian diet is good for people who are already malnourished. Really, you need some high quality protein.

Make sure it is WILD. Wild salmon IS low in heavy metals. I have seen some studies say it was lower than regular CAFO chicken meat. Grass fed raised beef is ok, but most people with GI issues struggle to digest red meat.
I would say initially grass fed beef is rough on people with circulatory issues. It has saturated fat, extremely healthy, but it WILL constrict your veins after a meal. So always get a great deal of exercise. Sedentary lifestyle is a death sentence for anyone who was ever significantly overweight. Even if you are skinny.
I am 22, 175 lb male. My circulatory system is clogged in places. I have been sedentary, and I do not recommend it.
This diet in this topic described, combined with 15 hours of moving and exercising a week is the ONLY genuine anti-depressant. Maybe other things work, but not very well without doing this first.
