Re: Magnesium increases my appetite - why?

Hi Mendomaid - thanks so much for your feedback. Yeah - magnesium has seemed to have caused (or greatly contributed to) a craving for more fatty, calorie-rich foods....but I didn't really think to tie this to malabsorption syndrome. I thought most people with malabsorption syndrome lose substantial amounts of weight, and/or have problems gaining weight? I seem to have the opposite problem: I'm very overweight, I seem to be unable to lose weight, and I gain weight easily. In fact - I think this latest food-craze has caused me to gain some weight....just in these 3-4 weeks alone.

I have suspected that I have "leaky gut" for awhile now - I've noticed some (other) symptoms that indicate that this is a likely issue. Would this be similar to or related to malabsorption syndrome?

This is so frustrating to me - because I think magnesium has benefited me in other ways. For ex., my teeth feel quite a bit stronger/healthier than they have been - and they even look slightly better. I can sort-of see a few of the ways in which magnesium is said to work "synergistically" with Vitamin B6.

As for the thiamine - I did not take that supplement alone - I did take it along with a Vitamin B complex capsule. I thought it was o.k. to add extra amounts of individual B vitamins as long as you're also taking an overall B-complex.
