I agree with you that the Dr. language is a difficult thing to understand, we are lucky we have the internet and Cure-Zone, a place to meet people who shares different health issues.

Smoking is a huge business, I lost my four brothers and sisters due to smoking, I quit it about 30 years ago, never touch another cigarette.
My platelet count is normal, and the routine blood test are normal too, the beta 2 microglubulin (tumor marker) and IgG inmunoglobulin are high.
About two years ago I started to feel weird, I lost the drive to do things, very lazy. Then one day I woke up with my feet,hands and joints swollen, the next day my knees were swollen,my tongue like a chow-chow dog very big (and stay that way till now) The bones in the skull felt like hit by tiny bullets and the back of the head was swollen too.My face has lots of red pimple like things . I went to thedermatologist,she said she had no clue and send me to another Doctor,he ordered rheumatic and infectius diseases test , everything was O.K.
I went to a Doctor who does homeophatic formulas, she said I was allergic to everything but 3 or 4 foods,I follow her over a year and got nothing.It was awfull expensive too.
So as no one had any idea, when they begun to suggest I was depresed, I quit seeing them.
One day I was feeling so lousy I made an appointment with a endocrinologist, it was a social friend, the appointment day I found her son was seeing her patients.He was very interested in the case and ordered lots and lots of blood and urine test.He said "I may seem crazy, but I want to shoot at every bird on the sky" Well he did, this young guy hit it.There the Beta 2 Microglobulin showed up, he send me to the Hematologist.
But after reading your mails I understand the puzzled emathologist, with this kind of anormalities,things are not very plain.
Now I will have to wait for a biopsie,Myelogram ,he said it will be done in my flat chest bone. Another in my tongue and lips.
He want to check for Amyloidosis, as far as I understand, it is related some way to M.Myeloma and are abnormal protein deposits in kidneys,hearth,lungs etc, and one symptom is a swollen tongue. The little piece is stained with something call "red congo stain".
Now I feel growing pains ,hip pains and I lost the appetite.
But, I'm doing lots of walking with ours dogs along the lemon and avocado trees we are harvesting
I'm in central Chile,South America.We do a lot of fly fishing on the south rivers ,but now we have a couple of volcanoes blowing up down there.I was in Oregon when Saint Helen exploded.
