Re: Saw Palmetto has changed my skin!

I suffered from cystic acne from the age of 21. I think alcohol made it worse and since I was in college, there wasn't much I could do about this. I tried every pill and none worked for me, the side effects were to bad and most gave me acne, including Dianette. I stopped drinking so much and my acne wasn't so bad but my skin was never great. When i was 28 and I had moved countries and changed jobs, my skin got really bad again. In desperation I remember that a doctor had recommended Yasmin to me years ago, but I had had it will the pill at this stage however I was willing to try anything.
Within 1 month my skin was crystal clear. I was happy on yasmin for about 3 years, but I did put on about 14 pounds that i really struggled to lose and found it very easy to gain weight. After 4 years I just didn't feel right on the pill and I was sick of not being able to lose weight. I went off the pill and my skin got bad as well. I had never had regular periods and they were still irregular once I came off the pill. I researched and researched so much about acne, my skin, hair, pcos, anything I could and came up wtih the solution that my skin had to be due to find out that yasmin was an anti androgen and that antibiotics had never really cleared my skin up, so it must be a hormonal problem, and most likely excess androgen related, since my hair isn't great either.
I kept seeing saw palmetto as a good anti androgen and so I started taking it 6 months ago and I have never looked back.
That coupled with green tea, peppermint and spearmint tea and running 3 times a week, seems to have REALLY REALLY helped my skin. Also, I don't drink that much, but when I do drink alcohol, I do break out still. I would almost go so far as to say Saw Palmetto has changed my life.
