it strikes me that TPTB have historically labeled anything that might undermine their authority as subversive, witchracft (herbal treatment of illess for example), or from the devil... so, while I have certianly seen similar comments about gnosticism in the past... it might be worth exploring in detail whether this is true or not, rather than take TPTB at their word... In the case of gnosticism, this can be quite an undertaking since gnostics' teachings were fluid and evolved... and much of these teachings have been destroyed and lost. Moreover, it does certainly appear that more than a little bit of misdirection and deception have been put out over the years to confuse people as to who the gnostics where, and what the believed...
