I have just signed up to this forum and having read past posts, I see I am not alone. I have been searching for answers for 5 years, or longer, to a series of symptoms that have lead me down a long road. I have been my own advocate and determined that I was suffering from severe food allergies and finally had my diagnosis confirmed by a specialist. This was only the beginning. I had to eliminate so many foods from my diet because either I was allergic to them or I was having trouble swallowing them. I developed a swallowing issue where I constantly felt like something was stuck in my throat. I was sent to an ENT and had a tube shoved up my nose that came down into my throat and I was diagnosed with Reflux/Gerd. I tried medication, against my will but it made the symptoms worse. I could still only eat a teaspoon of food at a time and had to wait 15 min inbetween teaspoons because the food would just not go down. The list of issues did not stop and I kept insisting that I could feel something in my throat. My GP is very good and he sent me to every specialist you can imagine. He sent me for every test and checked my entire body based on all the new symptoms I was developing. You'd be reading for hours if I tried to list everything. Then I started to feel extremely tired and weak. It got so bad driving home one day that I thought I was going to pass out and I felt pins and needles rush through my body along with heart palpitations. I wasn't taking a chance so I went to the hospital emergency. A week previous, I had gone to my GP and asked him to check my bones because I injured my knee, toe and finger on seperate occasions and I was worried with my limited eating that I was lacking proper nutrition. The hospital was able to see the blood work that I had gone for earlier in the day and I found out that my calcium was high. After researching I figured it was a parathyroid issue and my doctor confirmed that we would need to repeat the bloodwork. That was last week and I went for my blood test today, a neck ultrasound and see the specialist tomorrow...very quick. I haven't officially been diagnosed but I have all the symptoms, pointing in this direction. I was just wondering if anyone has been through the surgery out there. I feel awful all the time and I'm trying to be positive and happy that maybe I might have some relief but I'm nervous. It's really hard to go through this process because doctors don't seem to listen or take the sitution seriously. Everyone around you has to deal with your health issues but I'm sure they wonder how much is in your head. I'm only 41 but I've been having problems as far back as 10 years ago...Any feedback would be appreciated, and if I can help anyone please let me know.
