Researchers reporting in the journal Science say they have discovered a new species of oil-eating bacteria living half a mile down in the Gulf of Mexico. Study author Terry Hazen discusses the finding and what these bacteria might mean for future oil spills.

What would happen if a huge spill occurred? I will tell you... a bacterial population explosion upsetting the balance of life in the gulf.

If they ever did (I do not remember) move forward with the spraying of the GM microbes as they were discussing... that too.

So... if there is an *explosion* of bacterial infections... wouldn't it be expected?

Note that they expect this bacterial issue to *persist* as long as there is oil on the sea floor... no $hit.

how many other wells are leaking out there? I bet most all of them to one degree or another at some point over their lives.
