I have never noticed any loss in energy or mind-power on the first day of a fast. What IS a distinct possibility is fret, worry and other modes of negativity seeping into your mind where you tell yourself "you can NOT do this!" (which...is false. I would venture to guess that it is that little, negative voice that has brought you to the point of feeling the nudge to fast for weight loss in the first place. It is VERY important to PLANT yourself, mentally, within a more positive perspective...when successfully done this voice will disappear all together.)

From day 2-4 I always notice a distinct 'cloudiness' in my mind. This effects MY work, as a website designer, and I choose to take it very easy these days, avoiding as much work as I can afford to.
Assuming that you work from Monday-Friday, it would be my advice to you that you begin your fast on a THURSDAY as to only feel this cloudiness on Friday, allow yourself the ability to lounge on Sat/Sun, and by Monday you would be clear-headed again for work.
There is surely some lethargy as you continue through a fast, but the mental clarity is there (for me, at least) from day 5 onward. I have to imagine that mindset has more to do with this than anything. If you are continuously thinking about what you are doing (fasting) and worrying about the weight lost, and worrying about whether or not you are going to "make it", and worrying about whether you are going to binge after, and worrying about what people think of you, and worrying if it is "going to work", and...etc...then it is obvious that you are going to find serious mental distractions come upon you as you go about your work.
If you can put yourself in a strong place mentally, KNOWING that you ARE strong enough to "succeed" (which is a term very much in the eye of the beholder anyway), then you will allow for those worry-some thoughts to slip past your mind or not appear in the first place.
