Serratia marcescens [Historical background]

got me thinking how was it possible to make and use Serratia marcescens as a BioW more than a thousand years ago... They didn't have bio-labs at that time. It was more of a rhetorical question but "when did it all start?", I thought.
So, I've tried to research a bit and found some interesting papers and webpages about Serratia, although many papers aren't easily accessible. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the origins of this pathogen but the picture is more clear now.
