I am fairly certain you misunderstand. Not that you misunderstand the human condition- no you obviously understand it quite well. But you misunderstand the scenario I am depicting.

"Our owners fear us only if we stand up against them, cowering surprisingly has no effect on them."

This is the whole point: The "owners" are deliberately trying to get people to stand up against what they WANT the people to believe as their oppressors. And they are doing a damn good job of it: Look at all the misdirected anger at the banks, corporations, rich people, "zionists" etc. They are all just pawns- self sustaining entities that are playing their role perfectly but don't actually know about the bigger scheme. Sure they represent a part of the scheme but not the totality of it.

In this case they want people to fight against a "corrupt system" that only seems to oppress them more and more regardless of how much they stand up and "fight". It is designed this way. When people realize just how f*cked they really are, in conjunction with the global economic collapse, pandemonium will break loose and people will then NEED their oppressors to help maintain order from their own selves.

The solution is consciousness, not "fighting back".
