Scalp folliculitis treatment with antibiotics

Hi everyone, my name is Brian and I have scalp folliculitis. I am going bald, so I have always had some scalp problems, some minor folliculitis from shaving my head. About 8 months ago I was put on low dose accutane and tetracycline with other antibiotics to treat my acne. Everything did improve, but I took the medications for close to 8 months. 2-3 months have passed and my skin is starting to break out again and I have developed some type of folliculitis on my head. My hair has thinned all over my head and it seems the skin is not smooth anymore. The minute I shave my head, it starts to erupt and the small uneven bumps on my head flare up.

I saw a dermatologist and he diagnosed it as acne, and prescribed clindymacin topical for applying to the head and doxycycline for the oral antibiotic. Is this a good solution to try? I noticed the top of my head doesn't flare up with folliculitis, only the sides and back of my head. Ironically, I sleep on these areas and switch pillowcases daily. My head has never been this way, and I have no idea what is causing it.
