It is possible that lymphatic system problems could be playing a role in our condidion, but I cannot know for sure, I was just speculating. Having looked up lots of stuff in recent months relating to how issues with the liver, digestive system, immune system, and lymphatic system, among others, can all lead to skin problems, I honestly could not rule any of them out.

For example, I’ve just finished a book on skin problems, and in it the author put forward that oxidation/oxidative stress is a key factor in most skin degeneration problems. I mentioned oxidation/oxidative stress before in other posts, and another poster (ahr) felt that oxidation was causing the peeling in our lips. To recap, oxidation occurs when certain molecules called reactive oxygen species (such as free radicals) start damaging the cells of the body. They are created normally when oxygen is burnt by the body in respiration & metabolism, and the body usually deals with them with internal antioxidants. But when certain health problems occur, there can be an excess of reactive oxygen species and/or impaired antioxidants.

Anyway, the author stated that oxidation can also be caused by other things, such as viruses and bacteria, toxic pollution, alcohol, drugs, poor liver detoxification, and hydrocarbon products (petroleum-based products). Many lips products, cosmetics, and deodarants, etc, contain hydrocarbon derivatives. I’m not saying that oxidation is a cause of the lip problem for everyone, but it could be for some. If it was, you would have to find out what is causing the oxidation, and then try and eliminate it for healing to occur. The book highlights the importance of antioxidants in helping to deal with skin issues.

The book also takes a good look at the importance of digestive system health and skin, among other things. Hormonal disruption affecting the skin is also looked at (I noticed a recent thread on hormones here on the forum, mentioning the predominance of peeling lips affecting young males, and sometimes older women. The books looks at how testosterone issues in young men and oestrogen issues in menopausal women can cause skin problems. One thing caught my eye; it mentioned a decline in oestrogen in women can lead to a drop in the production of certain substances that keep the skin hydrated, such as hyaluronic acid. One poster in the rated messages at the top of the forum felt his/her lips healed after taking hyaluronic acid. I do not know if their issue was a hormonal one, or if taking hyaluronic acid supplementation will help other people; just thought I’d point it out. See:
