Hi everyone , I've posted my story a few times here but to just go over it briefly I took an antibiotic for a month ( tetracycline ) and after a month course started to feel very sick , developed constant acid reflux , gastritis , vitamin b12 deficiency , b9 deficiency , multiple food allergies , lost 2 stone in weight over around 2 months and more recently vitmain D deficiency and elevated liver enzymes.
Now I've luckily last week managed to see a doctor who is really really good. He listed to everything I said and agreed with me that this antibiotic most likely caused my problem and he thinks it's an intestinal problem.
I've in the past had a colonoscopy and endoscopy and he said it makes sense they didn't find anything ( other than acid reflux and erosion ) since they're looking in the wrong place. He mentioned antibiotics can affect the intestines quite severely and it's a tricky one since they do save millions of lives but can also affect someone quite badly , he thinks they are handed out to frequently.
He wants to take a biopsy of my intestines in a week or two ( still have to make the appointment ) as well as a biopsy of my colon ( since this hasn't been done before ).
I mentioned to him is that my vitamin D deficiency seemed to be getting worse and over the last few days my muscle aches and nausea has been increasing. I've been given vitamin D supplements but they just seem to make me feel even worse. Almost as if my body just can't absorb anything , I don't gain weight and I'm lacking all of these vitamins.
Whilst I'm waiting for this procedure to be done I was wondering if anybody has any ideas on how I could maybe help my body to absorb the much needed vitamins and nutrients I can't seem to be able to process since I'm in quite a bit of pain !.
Do you think it's a good idea to keep taking vitamin D supplements that seem to make me feel sick and experience quite bad vertigo ?. Sure I'm lacking vitamin D but I tend to feel much worse when taking them. My body doesn't seem to want to absorb vitamin D from sunlight , food or supplements.
My other question is do the intestines play a part in the absorption of vitmain D , b12 and the other things I seem to be lacking ?.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions or help. I don't know where I'd be without this board !.
