Re: Adverse reaction to probiotic - die-off or not?

Thanks for the feedback. Yes - in my brainfog I had sort-of forgotten that I could try to space out the doses more - despite the fact that I've recently employed that strategy for other supplements I've been taking. Mental-constipation is a beast.

Still - it's frustrating to not be sure of the actual reasons for my bad reaction - and to not be sure if this is something that I should just push through, or abandon.

Interestingly - before I started the Bifido probiotic, I was taking a 5 CFU probiotic that contains a mixture of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium strains (Lactobacillus plantarum, Bifidobacterium lactis, Lactobacillus acidophilus, and Bifidobacterium longum) - and I didn't have nearly as much of an issue with "brain-poisoning" type of symptoms. There seems to be something about that formulation that is gentler on my system. In fact - I experienced something of a "soothing" or "relieving" effect in my head - at least to a modest degree (not nearly enough to fix what is "wrong" with my head - but there was a palpable positive sensation). They only reason why I (temporarily) stopped taking it is because I wanted to see what an all-Bifido probiotic would do for me.

I wonder if Acidophilus and Bifidobacterium have opposing effects in some ways? How crucial is it that they be balanced? Is it something about Bifido strains that causes a stronger die-off reaction? I wish I knew a lot more about each strain of probiotics and its effects.
