Fasting and sex? Bad mix or good?

Hello all!

I would like to do an extended fast, 30-40 days. The last time I did a long fast, about 3 years ago, I was living alone. I've always believed that one should abstain from sex while fasting, especially on long ones. The mixing of energies between a faster and non-faster seems counterproductive and possibly would make it difficult to stay focused on the spiritual bennies of fasting.

I don't have any evidence, you understand, just going on instinct. Any thoughts and/or experiences?
