> the nutritionist I was seeing (from ION) just put me on tons of supplements, based on Mineral Check's recommendations of increasing iron and zinc (as they compete with mercury).
You have a bad ION nutritionist story too! Snap! Mine didn't even give me my hair test - took me 4 months to get it off her. Its been a goldmine of information, and to think she could have denied me having it. The silly cow used the Stool test to diagnose that I didn't have candida! I phoned up the lab (IWDL) and they agreed with me and said that she was using the wrong test ...
> As you know they just think sorting out the minerals sorts heavy metals out. I didn't know enough about mercury but regardless I didn't feel right on the supps....thought it was the wrong approach so just abandoned it as I usually do.
This is a really interesting question and goes back to the Cutler hypothesis. Can you reverse deranged minerals by supplementing or do you have to chelate?
> Actually I remember bringing up the subject of eating brown rice ages ago on Shelley's forum I think....you told me where to get off lol! Understandable ;), I don't think it suits everyone.
Sorry about that. I've somewhat revised my views on grains vs no-grains. The liver actually needs a small amount of carbs in the diet. Yet grains will still ferment (in me at least), so I tend to get my carbs from casava. There is no ideal candida diet, because although my diet is largely non-fermentative (no grains), it is very goitrogenic (brassicas, cassava etc.)
> We were obviously destined to have Cutler in our lives lol ;)
One thing is for sure, you have had a dramatic impact on my healing path.
That name Cutler never stops appearing. [Probably because I feel the need to mention him every 5 minutes]
> ...which they aren't going to find in a colonoscopy anyway (I've had one of those, I didn't realise it reached the small intestine either) so those kids' intestines will appear normal.
>And they don't seem to understand either that the brain gets it's nourishment from the gut!!!
You just reminded me - that "gastroenterologist" was bloody awful. Her only contribution to the programme was "The gut and the mind are linked. You know its like when you go to an interview and you feel nervous". No shit Einstein!!
>Mercury was mentioned in an article about what causes autism in The New Scientist (two weeks ago). It concluded that many more studies are needed.....but who will fund them?!!
Thanks I hadn't seen that: "In 2003, a small study by paediatrician Amy Holmes found much lower levels of mercury than normal in the hair of children with autism (New Scientist, 21 June 2003, page 4). Her hotly contested theory is that they have an impaired ability to excrete mercury." Did someone say deranged mineral profile??
> So you have another week before starting on the DMSA! What antioxidants are you taking, if you don't mind me asking? I'm going to put it off for a few more weeks I think.
I take Emergen-C but its too alkaline and screws up my digestion. I've ordered some Vit. C powder. What else do you recommend?
> Sorry for another long post, I'll keep it brief from now on!
Don't be silly. Post as long (or short) as you want.
JV.
