My son has had plaque psoriasis for several years. He also has psoriatic arthritis.
I'd like to respond to some of your questions, and add some other ideas I have kicked around.
1- Our immediate family have hardly any allergies, but there are some on the paternal side -- not food allergies, though.
2- His skin was somewhat oily in high school, but when he got into college (and his eating habits dropped considerably) his face broke out badly. Shortly after finishing college and getting a high stressed job, he developed psoriasis.
3- He hasn't mentioned noticing a problem with alcohol and isn't around hardly any smokers, so I cannot comment on that.
Now, things I have wondered ... when he was about three, he got chicken pox and had an extra hard case ... very few pox, but each one got huge. He also fell from a high deck when he was a teen-ager and cut a knee badly enough it took stitches and he got staph infection in it. I have read that there is a thought that psoriasis develops when the body overreacts to an infection, etc. that sends the immune system into overdrive and it forgets to shut down and starts in on the body. Can anyone relate to something similar to this?
I like your idea of sharing thoughts and ideas of causes. Thanks for starting this.
