How successful is retreatment and/or root removal?

Hi

I have had problems with a root canalled tooth for about a year now as detailed in a previoius post

My problems are ongoing, I have had numerous symptoms since the treatment. The main problems at the moment are tinnitus in my right ear ( same side as the root canal), and I can taste something around the tooth. Other symptoms have included mild ear ache, headaches, light headedness, mental fog and gastric problems ( indigestion/heartburn sensation before eating!?)

After seeing 6 different dentists I have finally seen somebody who thinks there is still some infection at the tip of one of the roots after looking at the xrays. The dentist wants to try to retreat the root canalled tooth and if that fails then she may remove the root itself ( apidectomy I think?)

Does anybody have any ideas as to whether or not retreatment and/or root removal has any chance of success!
