I had a sever Deviated Septum, but could not tell until the ENT looked in there. My symptoms were... Very often I could not breathe through one side (always the same side) of my nose. Very stuffy, like the passage was swelling shut. It started slowly getting narrow and at first it would close up enough to stop drainage. The drainage being backed up would cause an infection, which caused inflamed membrane, which caused it to close up even further. This started happening more and more often each year. Still, I could not tell that my septum was deviated by looking up in there or by physically feeling with my hands. The best way I can descibe it (forgive the ludeness) is it was like getting a big booger stuck far enough up in there that you couldn't reach it, and stuck enough you can't blow it out or sniff it back in.

I got fixed. I had septoplasty done to straighten out my septum and turbinate reduction and I can BREATHE!!!!!! It was a rough couple of days after the surgery, but well worth the results. I was having to spray flonaise and take allegra D daily to be able to breathe. Especially at night when I slept. So far after the surgery, I am drug free and breathing freely.
