FOY...that sounds like a cool experience to me!! I don't think I've ever seen a cicada...? They are quite big, though, aren't they? Seeing it moult like that must have been wild...I mean, there you were right at that significant instant...I'd have to say that that's...significant!
I like to look at things too...my friend still laughs and chuckles when she remembers our 'pet slug'...unbeknownst to us it had been barely surviving on a large calla lily that was in a vase on our kitchen table...we found it (and it was tiny too - I'm talkin 1/8th of an inch
tops...and it was totally clear...then we were eating dinner so we fed it (!)....we put it on a lettuce leaf and it didn't look like much was happening but when we looked at it through the loup (we have a high powered little dealy from a super8 camera) you could see it's mouth chewing and swallowing away and the green moved up through it's head and settled in it's body....and so it turned green!!! Wild eh? It was totally clear when it started to eat (I think it had starved for about 3 days - my friend had cut us the lily from her garden)...and after a few hours of eating it had totally changed colour! The super-cool thing was that the lettuce leaf didn't look like it was eaten at all (without the loup)...but with the loup it looked like great caverns had been carved out of it (just the first spongy layer)....woweeee....we sat with our pet slug all through a long dinner before finally setting it free on our back porch packed with plants...
You must've loved Microcosmos eh???
