need help with back pain

I have had a back problem for many years due to horseback riding falls many years ago. Every now and then my back goes "out". I have been lazy about doing my exercises and made an apt with doctor for tomorrow to get a referral to PT. I do have a chiro but yesterday read some frightening info online about chiro's rupturing discs so was nervous to go today. This current back problem started last week with pain radiating in lower back but then when it started to feel better I realised the source of pain is in my lower right side (sacroiliac?). For some dumb reason it started feeling worse this morning (have been walking daily and also doing knees to chest/cat curls exercises daily). Now I am so depressed because I am in my 60's, good health and quite energetic and young for my age and now I feel like maybe this time the pain is not going to go away :( I took a 200c dose Arnica a couple of times, have been alternative ice and heat and when it seemed worse today have not spent much time on computer but laid on bed on my back with knees supported and my special pillow under my head. I did go for a walk this morning but seemed like it made it worse or perhaps the car ride to the walk was the culprit. Anyway, would appreciate any ideas. I juice veggies daily, eat mostly raw fruits/vegetables also vegetarian so not saying I am perfect but pretty good diet. Would like to know what to use for pain, will stop at store tomorrow after Dr. I guess I am afraid Dr will say something terrible wrong but after all these years of off and on similar incidents I guess I am just being negative. UPDATE
Went to Dr today and he said its my sacroiliac and not a disc thank God. Also got a referral to PT. BUT I need to find some ways to prevent this from happening again and again and any ideas are welcome, still in pain but eased off abit, went for a walk this evening and going to PT tomorrow morning.
