Did my best to stay out of this one...

My daughter became pregnant out of wedlock. A bright and beautiful young lady, she succumbed to a natural impulse. Being in the military, she received advice from several sources. Females (of high rank) advised her to abort. Her lover begged her to have the baby. Friends gave her a mixture of advisories...So, ultimately, she called Dad. "What should I do, Dad? Shit!!

She has always turned to me for the "final" answer. This was a question I was not expecting--Nor, that I felt qualified to deal with. My response:

"When the sperm impregnates the egg, a life-cycle begins. Period! No miracles, sermons on the mount or flashes of lightning. If a fertile hen incubates her egg, a seed falls into the proper soil or a scientist performs the sperm-to-egg transfer in a test tube, a potential living creature begins the struggle toward maturation."

I told her that no amount of equivocation would ever change that reality. I stated that, hopefully, whatever choice she made, she would realize that she "was" dealing with a life. I told her that a decision to abort was legal. That her dreams for her future would be placed on hold if she chose to have the baby. I told her that I would love and support her whatever decision she made.

I realize that my philosophy is not esoteric nor deep. Kinda' like the Shrub. Had my daughter aborted her child, and some facist called her a killer, I would have put the facist out of his\her misery. In fact, I wish we could establish an open season on the pathetic busy-bodies. Ever seen a facist with an adopted kid? Did churches and organizations serving the needy see an upswing in donations when the Nazis got there tax giveaway? Think I'm gonna' be sick.
