Genetic hairloss involves a genetic sensitivity to hormones and anything that can stop that sensitivity occuring may help the condition. I know that in Chinese herbal medicine there is a herb called shin men that supposedly has the properties to reduce the sensitivity.I also know of a female friend who suffers from genetic pattern hairloss has been on a toxic amount of dangerous medicines for years and has not seen any improvement in her hairloss. It is very heartbreaking. However, I also know a male friend who started treatment when he first started balding and it has stopped his hair falling and given him regrowth. He is a doctor and now has his own hairlosss clinic in Manchester!
But let`s not jump to the conclusion that Maureen has genetic pattern harloss! I think that the fact it started after your stay in hospital is significant. I think you need to see an expert( and there are few in this field) who can take a proper medical history and check your scalp prpoerly, ask about family history of hairloss and run any tests that may be needed, ie Hormones, Thyroid, Iron anemia... I have seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp and have lost a lot of hair. However, it took a trip to London to see a world expert in hairloss to get the right diagnosis! My local doctor had told me all hairloss was genetic, even though I had no signs of pattern hairloss!!However, as soon as the expert saw the condition of my scalp he knew it was my greasy scalp that was causing the hairloss. He ran all kinds of tests to cover all bases, all of which came back normal except for low iron stores. He suggested taking iron, cutting out dairy to help the scalp and using hEAD and SHOULDERS shampoo..This has helped a lot. Is your hair falling out diffusely or thinning in a genetic pattern ie at the temples, or back/top of the head?
And for Hair Doctor
How can you expect peole to get real about their hair problems when most doctors don't know enough about hair loss to give an accurate diagnosis? There are many causes and even though genetics is a big part, any one who seriously knows about genetic hairloss would know to look for the pattern on either a man or woman to conclude so, and provide them with their options in a sensitive manner. For my condition the shampoo and natural treatments work!
