After doing a ton of research, both Internet and other, I have just about 99% decided to buy John E.' LWM 4.

Then, like a few others it seems, I ran across this forum today. Needless to say, I was a bit taken aback!

I am trying to keep an open mind on this topic, primarily due to the fact that it seems ANYTHING to do with the topic of water and purification/treating of it, is a highly volatile topic. Just look at the ever raging battle over whether 'regular' distilled water is the best thing for you or the worst thing for you.

As such, I am trying to get a even handed take on John E. and the LWM 3 or 4 from this forum.

It is clear that the original posting has a very strong opinion. Having been 'ticked off' once or twice in my time, I can 'look past' the emotional presentation; and would still like to try and figure this situation out.

On one hand, there are certainly a number of posts that clearly state that the machine has worked for them, even some that have stated it has worked very well for them, even to the point of some stating that it works as claimed on the 'hot tub test'.

Then there are some, and primarily the original thread that state in no uncertain terms that this machine is total junk, total bunk, total scam. To include that the machine was not even functional out of the box, and when apparently functioning was VERY loud.

I would hope to be able to get a view somewhere more in the middle of these 2 very different views.

I am willing to shell out the $1700 for this machine. Have already been done the road of 'regular' distilled and was greatly displeased with the results, and because of that not interested in RO, which seems to have the same inherent problems.

Hesitant to fork over $1700, you bet. But I got to get the activated charcoal pitcher off the kitchen counter! And I don't want to spend a fortune on buying good spring water for the rest of my life.

I am fortunate, I have happened to find, again only today, that within easy driving distance there is a dealer of the LWM 4 machine. So I will probably be able to check out the machine first hand, maybe even convince the person to sell me a sample?

Bottom line: I would sure like to try and put my mind to rest that if I decide to fork over $1700, that I am not another sucker?
