Hi Ana,
If you get sublingual B12 pills they are supposed to replentish your B12 levels in a short time.
If you get a B12 injection from your doc monthly it will do the same thing but the effect tapers off
before the next injection. The usual injection is 1000 micrograms and pills to be swallowed are as well.
Even if you have a digestive system that absorbs poorly, enough gets into the bloodstream.
Sublingualy is better because it bypasses the digestive system much like a patch does.
The Body only needs 1 to 2 micrograms (not miligrams but 1000 times less). If your intestines are
working as they should you can get this much from a balanced diet that includes meats, whole grains,
fortified cereals and a variety of vegetables and fruits. If your diet is very limited, for some reason, then you should
be checked in case you are becoming defficicent.
Since you mentioned stomach ulcers, have you ever had a blood test for Helicobacter?
Do you have belching, burping and burning in the stomach which gets better after you eat for an hour or
so and is worse when you are hungry, a white coated tongue, a sour taste in the mouth and bad breath?
If so, you would probably benefit from a one week triple therapy of two antibiotics and an ulcer med like
Prilosec. Without ever trying this, you would never know if a bacteria that you picked up
while on a vacation to some sunny tropical isle where you ate a salad or a mixed drink made
with local untreated water caused your ulcer(s).
If you have a mate who is also showing signs of gastritis, you might have caught the bug from them
even though you are having the more serious symptoms. If so, you should both be treated or risk reinfection.
Don't just take my word for this. It was discovered in 1983 and some docs are still not up to speed or just don't believe
for some reason. Fortunately most docs did see the 1997 the TV show with Hugh Downs and Barbara Walters
where this was discussed in detail. (60 Minutes).
Here is a link to read.. http://www.drmirkin.com/archive/7128.html Notice that it contains the medical journal referrences
in case your doctor wants to look up the original studies himself.
I could try to cover other things you mentioned, but this is getting a bit long already. :)
Good luck
Ron
